About us
Sharon’s shortbread started as a means to an end when, in tough times, additional cash was needed. Sharon started baking in Pretoria in a little countertop oven and it has grown from there. The recipe has been perfected over the years and the melt in your mouth shortbread is the result.
Our shortbread
When my God-son was little, I would send him shortbread whenever I got the opportunity and he still loves it. When he was about 4, his Mum and Dad took him out and whilst having coffee in the local coffee shop, he heard there was shortbread on the menu so he promptly ordered some. It arrived and was a biggish piece, so he chomped his way through the piece of shortbread and at the end announced to everyone in the coffee shop “That was not as good as my Auntie Sharon’s shortbread!”
Over the past couple of years our customers have come from various corners of South Africa – we have customers as far as Cape Town and Durban. We have baked for corporate gifts for a couple of larger corporate companies as well.
Our team
Jan runs the bakery and does a fair amount of baking himself. He is assisted in the bakery by Jane, Rachel, Senzy and Shez. Sharon focuses on keeping the admin up to date..
We do not believe that our recipe is our only secret to a perfect piece of shortbread – we believe that it is the love that is added to each batch that creates the perfect piece each time.
